Day 1: Tripoli. Overnight Tripoli
Day 2: Tripoli: City Tour including National Museum and Souk. Fly to Benghazi. Overnight Benghazi.
Day 3 (Benghazi-Soussa):
Stop 1. Wadi Zazah. Channel deposits in the El Himadah Formation. Near-shore facies of the Jabal Al Akhdar Group. Nummulites fichteli beds in Al Bayda Formation.
Stop 2. Road side stop and quarry section of Apollonia Formation. Pelagic facies of the Jabal Al Akhdar Group.
Stop 3. Old Al Marj Village (Earthquake zone - 1958).
Stop 4. Al Marj Quarry. El Himadah gastropod facies overlying nummulitic Dernah Formation of the Jabal Al Akhdar Group.
Day 4 (Soussa-Al Athrun-Ain Dabousseyah):
Stop 1. Wadi Al Athrun. Campanian-Maastrichtian slumped chalk (Al Athrun Formation).
Stop2. Cretaceous-Tertiary boundary. Early Eocene (Apollonia Formation) overlying Maastrichtian Al Athrun Formation. Slumped Apollonia Formation with large siliceous nodules. Down slope nummulitic.
Stop 3. Collapse/fragmental unit within deep water Apollonia Formation.
Stop 4. Nummulitic Dernah Formation.
Stop 5. Dernah Formation (large B-enriched N. gizehensis beds) unconformably overlain by Al Bayda Formation (Coralline Algal Unit).
Stop 6. Al Faidiyah Formation. Large coral horizons, Clypeaster beds, lepidocyclinid and operculinid beds.
Day 5 (Soussa-Cyrene-Wadi Kuf):
Stop 1. Cyrene Roman City.
Stop 2. Roman Graves in Dernah Formation.
Stop 3. Thalassinoides beds in Shahat Marl (Late Eocene).
Lunch in Al Bayda.
Stop 4. Wadi Kuf. Al Bayda Formation (Oligocene); Shahat Marl (Late Eocene) (Nummulites fabiani bed) and Al Himadah Formation/Dernah Formation. Overview of Dernah Formation on the Wadi Kuf Bridge.
Day 6. (Soussa-Dernah-Slontah) Apollonia Roman City, Soussa:
Stop 1. Dernah Quarry. Miocene Brick Quarry (Al Faidiyah Formation).
Stop 2. Dernah Road Section. Oligocene (Al Bayda Formation) unconformably overlying Middle Eocene Dernah Formation. Coral build-ups in Dernah Formation.
Lunch in Dernah.
Stop 3. Slontah. Dernah Formation and Al Bayda Formation. Collection of Echinolampys spp. Reactivation of Cyrenaican fault system. Return Benghazi.
Day 7 (Benghazi-Tripoli) Overnight Tripoli.
Day 8 Leptis Magna. Overnight Tripoli.
Day 9 Sabratha.
Day 10 Return Home.
